The Story of McCoy

Last Updated: November 30, 2023

McCoy, a 10-week-old puppy, was run over by his owner. He was left for two weeks before the owner even took him in to see a vet. He was only taken it for shots and not because of his injury. He couldn't walk and when the vet did x-rays to find out why, it was because his leg was completely shattered. The vet would not vaccinate him because he was running a temperature. The owner wouldn’t even pay for pain meds. The vet clinic refused to send the puppy back with the owner and told him if he did not surrender the dog, they would report him for animal cruelty. The owner left McCoy to be "put to sleep or whatever they wanted to do." A technician took him home and contacted Corgi rescue. They picked him up immediately and he was taken to their urgent care vet. After three vets looked at this him, they all agreed that there was no way to save the leg. The joint was completely destroyed, and the next day his leg was amputated. McCoy got the testing, vaccines, preventative care, and emergency care he so desperately needed. He was also found to be cryptorchid, and the vet will determine when the best time to neuter him will be. McCoy now has the chance for a long, happy life thanks Corgi rescue and our donors.
