The Story of Lucy

Last Updated: March 21, 2026

Corgi rescue received a call from a senior lady living in a home in a nearby municipality. She had a male and female Corgi and her only source of income was social security. Her female had six puppies, but only four lived. She asked the rescue to take the puppies, which they did. The rescue asked her to get her dogs altered but she did not have the money. Her family helped her get the boy neutered and the rescue paid for the spay of the female – they were rewarded with home baked cookies. All four of the puppies had hip dysplasia and required Juvenile Pubic Symphysiodesis (JPS). It is a minimally invasive, preventative surgery for puppies, typically aged 14-20 weeks, designed to correct hip dysplasia. Lucy had the usual preventative treatments and she and the other puppies will have a follow-up to the surgery in a few months.
