The Story of Buddy 2024

Last Updated: November 27, 2024

Buddy came into rescue after the rescue had been notified of a man who because of his health, needed someone to “come get his dog and give him a home.” Sadly, the gentleman was very ill with cancer, and had been struggling to even feed Buddy properly. Buddy’s coat was in terrible shape and it seemed clear that he had not been eating well or regularly. Once in rescue, Buddy was evaluated, and had some regular preventative maintenance and bloodwork done. His original vet records showed he is ten years old. Some of his blood values, including liver enzymes, were somewhat elevated, but not so much that the vet didn’t think he was healthy enough for a neuter and dental. He also has a “chronic ulceration of his nasal planum” that after further testing turned out to be Discoid Lupus. This is an autoimmune disease, but not systemic, that is easily treated with an ointment called Tacrolimus.
