Stuart had been in what was felt to be an unsafe home situation when he was taken out and fostered by someone wanting to help him. Unfortunately, he and the dog in the home were not getting along, and a friend of the fosterer, kindly took him in. When taken in by the foster caregivers, he had open wounds on his left hind leg, and was favoring it, but it didn’t seem to bother him. He ran around, and got on the sofa off a ramp, so he seemed okay. He was taken to the doctors right away, as they didn’t know how to care for the open wound. To their surprise, the doctor said that his open wound wasn’t intentionally done to him, it was probably the result of his splint/bandage not being changed for 30 days. His vet record that he came with showed he had been splinted and bandaged. Not knowing why he had been splinted, the vet X-rayed him and found that he had a complete dislocation on his left hind ankle. She bandaged and taped him and recommended we speak to an orthopedic surgeon. In contacting the vet hospital, he had been to be splinted originally, it was found that his family were told that he had the dislocation and he required surgery. They neglected his care and the severe ulceration developed. At this time, Stuart has healed from his ulceration and is managing well with the dislocation. Due to his young age, energy level and issues with sedation, he has not had surgery yet. His foster is his permanent home and will ensure that he is pain-free and mobile based on the vet advice they are being given.
