The Story of Barney

Last Updated: October 08, 2008

Rescuer: Celie Reynolds at celie@phoenixco.com

Here is Barney's story, in the words of his rescuer:
"Barney's 85 year old owner died of cancer two weeks ago. She made no provisions for him and her daughter wanted to euthanize Barney, so the caregiver called me. Barney came from a pet store and the breeder appears to be out of business.
"Barney has a spring in his step, a twinkle in his eye and a merry heart. Before meals he does the corgi bounce like he is two, despite the excess weight. He loves to snuggle and lives to be brushed. He enjoys moderate walks and would be a devoted companion for a retired person.
"Barney was known to have had blood in his urine for at least two months before I got him. His tests show calcium oxalate crystals in his urine. X-rays this morning show multiple bladder stones. He needs to have surgery to remove the bladder stones or there is a risk of one of them plugging the urethra and causing an emergency surgery.
"While he is under anestetic there are some other items to fix: He has a cyst on one eye lid that will be burned off. He needs a dental very badly. His teeth are green!"
CorgiAid supporters will help Barney get healthy so he can enjoy the happy retirement he deserves. Thank you!
