The Story of Spencer

Last Updated: March 13, 2008

Here is Spencer's story, in the words of his rescuer:
"I have rescued a little Corgi/Jack Russell mix, thought to be a girl, from the Clayton County Animal Control in Georgia outside of Atlanta. The boy turned out to have a badly fractured hip. This shelter provides no medical care. This dog was turned in by its owners with 'muscle problems'.
"A shelter volunteer dropped off 'Abigail' at the Huntington Creek vet hospital in Fayettville, GA. The shelter had this dog listed as a female, but come to find out, Abigail was actually a neutered male. The vet hospital gave Spencer all of his shots and a physical and took x-rays. It turned out that the leg was so atrophied and the fractures so bad, that amputation was the best option. The amputation of the right rear leg was done last Wednesdeay. I picked up Spencer Monday (3/10) and brought him home. He is recovering fine from the surgery and appears healthy other wise. I will get the stitches removed the end of this week.
"Spencer is a very sweet and submissive dog. He is fitting in quite well with my other dogs.
"Everyone at the vet hospital in Georgia fell in love with him. I would get comments on how sweet he was when I would call to check on him. Several of the employees cried as he was picked up to come home."
CorgiAid supporters have helped with Spencer's amputation. Three-legged dogs tend to do very well, and we have every expectation that Spencer will, too. Thank you!
