Here is Maddie's story, in the words of her rescuer:
"Maddie was found as a stray. No one claimed her, and the shelter was unable to adopt her out because she wouldn't bear weight on her left back leg. She also has a chunk out of her left ear as well as scars on her left side of her face. The shelter sent her to us on Sat. June 9th. On the 11th, our vet did x-rays that showed her heel bone was completely broken off. We also found a large warty mass on her back.
"Maddie's leg injury is old, but it had not healed. (If it had healed, they would not attempt to repair it. Her bones are lying in there loose.) Her heel bone is dislocated, and her tallus is fractured. We sent her x-rays to the University of TN, and the orthopedic surgeon says that the best option for salvaging her leg is to fuse the ankle."
"Maddie is a sweet girl. She's very quiet, and is happy to sit in your lap and lick you.
"Maddie looks like she's been through a war and lost. She has stitches on her underneath and her back, and after her spay surgery, she got milk. She's been happy to lay around in her crate and hobble in and out by our ramp for bathroom trips. She has grinned her shy little grin through it all. "
CorgiAid supporters will help Maddie's leg get more comfortable. Thank you!
