The Story of Baxter

Last Updated: January 26, 2007

Rescuer: Tina Anderson at

Here is Baxter's story, in the words of his rescuer:
"Baxter is a darling corgi/cardi mix. He was found scavenging at the fairgrounds near Fresno. Caught with a dog pole, and handled a bit roughly he was taken to the local SPCA. Baxter was very shy, and fearful. It appeared he wasn't too interested in being touched... but Bobbie saw something special in this little pup's eyes. She got in touch with us and asked if we could take him on.
"So... we arranged to get him neutered & chipped through the SPCA, and worked on getting him to me. Initially he was NOT interested in petting, nor being picked up. Transferring him car to car was a little interesting. I immediately made arrangements to get him to the vet for another checkup.
"Poor Baxter! He had hookworms, tapeworms, whipworms, coccidia, giardia, and an upper respiratory tract infection. He was starving... he weighed less than 24 pounds and had no muscle at all. He also has a BB imbedded in some scar tissue... no wonder he didn't want to be picked up. He HURT!
"Baxter has had to be on a number of antibiotics... and is almost over the respiratory tract infection. We need to re-test for any worms or other "bugs" before he can be declared completely healthy."
CorgiAid supporters will help Baxter get healthy so he can find his forever home. Thank you!
