Here is Ace's story, in the words of his rescuer:
"Ace was posted on Corgi Rescues of America page, because he was on the Euthanasia list at a very high kill Fort Worth, Texas shelter. He had a bad eye, and he was heartworm positive. He had very little hope of getting out alive.
"I found out the night before he was going to be put to sleep that my friend was flying with a layover in the Fort Worth airport. It took a long night of phone calls, emails, and begging, but we found someone to pull him from the shelter, buy him a crate, and take him to the airport to meet my friend during his layover.
"Ace had the universe on his side that day, because the others not saved from that shelter were, sadly, put to sleep. If my friend had not been traveling, he would have been one of them.
"He is a fantastic dog that was completely worth saving.
"Ace is the most well behaved dog that I have ever met. He loves every person we meet. He even went right over to my neighbor's house to say hi. I truly don't think that he has an aggressive bone in his body.
"I truly think that Ace's owner turned him in, because he could not pay for all of Ace's medical problems. Ace is a fantastic dog. He loves just being near you.
"He is not reactive to other dogs barking through their yard gates when we go for a walk, and he was also curious, but nonreactive to my neighbor's chickens. He walks great on a leash and loves just being near people.
"Ace is also underweight at 18 lbs. He needs to gain at least 5 lbs.
"Ace is heartworm positive and believed to have Horner's Syndrome in his right eye. His eyeball will most likely need to be removed to prevent further infection, and we are on month one of several months of slow kill heartworm medication."
CorgiAid supporters are helping Ace get the medical care he needs in order to move on into a happy next chapter of his life. Thank you!
Ace's rescuer lives in Oregon.
